Runstreak counter

Is there someone how’s building an app for counting runstreak days? Or is there someone whom is willing to do so?

What are you thinking? I could have a go if you want, u have looked into the ecosystem a lot for another app. Have you got any thoughts or expectations for this?

If you have access to a Garmin or Garmin IQ there is a very simple app named runstreak that counts the day from a day you put in you’re self and givers you some encouraging on your way. Something like that.

Stay tuned :eyes: I have some plans I am sketching out ready to build, it will be a journey. :mount_fuji::snow_capped_mountain::grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

This is my concept for a streak calculator. I wanted to keep inspiration from what I see Una is, it’s heritage from @lewis_una with Scottish mountains in mind. Track the streak by summiting mountains including some of the prime Scottish peaks amongst others.

Let me know what you think. I have got a watch arriving tomorrow to run tests on over the week so will report back with how well the app code is working

It’s Looks amazing!

This looks incredible!

Unfortunately on testing on the device I have hit a hurdle, the watch keeps every app’s files private to that app, so a streak app can’t see the activities recorded by Running, Walking or any other app. On top of that, the phone sync deletes the activity files from the watch.

The only way I can see this working is when any app saves an activity, have the watch also write a one-line entry (date, activity type, duration) to a shared file, something like `SharedData/activity-log.json`. Apps are already allowed to read that folder, so Streak could count everything from there, with no new permissions needed.

@Ross_UNA ?

How does the developing going? Hasn’t heard anything for sometime.

Hi @artfors

I have built a 90% app for it with a Glance widget for a custom streak calculator. As in the post above, as far as I can tell, it’s not possible for an app to see the activities of any other apps, so the Streak app, can not see when a run, bike etc activity is done. This means automatic counting is not possible, it works with manual logging, but that’s not particularly user friendly or intuitive. So at the moment it’s stuck, but I am planning to speak with Una to see if we can address this.

Can’t it just count days? If, let’s say I started 1th of October and I tell the app my first day it just count the days so to day would have been day 9 then it’s up to me to “start and stop” my streak.

While I agree and I think it’s a bit of a sticking point worth a design for app collaboration, there’s a little nuance to this. The watch already uses ../SharedData/, forking any existing app and having it drop something in there is viable.

I’ve been playing with trying to calculate “training load” (like Garmin), and that’s the way I’ve settled on it so far - rebuild every app to write the relevant data to a shared location. It means arbitrary other user’s apps wouldn’t contribute, but until there’s a blessed design in place that’s inevitable.

Maybe worth collaborating on to come up with a practice and bootstrap the idea?

Yes for sure. Shared data folder could be a really valuable resource and has potential.

Forking apps is fine for you, but not anyone else :joy:

I’m sure we can. Work with UNA on these things, I have a wish list :joy:
