Public catalog webpage for App Store

I may be outing myself as an “old”, but I personally prefer webpages to apps for most things. Devs can manage their apps via a webpage, but the store front end is locked strictly inside the mobile app.

I’d like to pitch the idea of creating a lightweight, public webpage of the app store. I’m not suggesting it needs to do web-to-watch installation or anything, just a read only browser interface.

It would buy a few things:

  • Users could share links to apps that people outside the UNA ecosystem could view
    • great for showcasing, super high friction to install an app just to look at the details
    • works as its own sales pitch when people are evaluating buying the UNA
  • desktop browsing is just faster and more comfortable for me personally

I second this opinion.

If you come from the Android world, the convenience of Play Store web UI for browsing available apps is pretty well proven.

As dev, you also would like to have a web link you could post to your app when you talk about it. It greatly helps the outreach process.

While we talking about potential improvements to the App Store, I’d love to have an Andorid Intent to open the UNA app on phone directly to an app page in the store. That way I can have my companion app can prompt the use to open the UNA app store for the specific app they need to install on the watch.
